Updated Acceptable Internship/House Job Rotations for Irish Medical Council Registration
Here are the details of the duration and type of clinical rotations acceptable by the Irish Medical Council.
- Internship/House Job should be a Continuous 12-month rotation.
- 3 months in General Medicine and 3 Months in General Surgery is mandatory.
Following specialities must not be less than 2 months and more than 4 months.

March 2, 2024Kindly be informed that I did my MBBS from china and I graduated in 2015 July. I have one year pre-graduation internship from 2014-2015 ( 3 months in Medicine, 3 months in Surgery, 3 months in Pediatrics and 3 months in Obs/Gynae ).
From 2015 November until now, I am working in Fitness to Practice Section in Department of Healthcare professions at Ministry of Public Health-Qatar. Along with my job, I have completed my Master degree in Clinical Research and completed 1 year FISQua and published some papers.
As I mentioned above and I don’t have any professional gap but I do have clinical gap, I would like to ask that am I eligible to register with Irish Medical Council after passing OET/IELTS

And they need 12 months. Yours is 11 months

My querry is if on my experince certificate PMC mention “Medicine” and with surgery they mention “General Surgery”. Kindly tell me is this acceptable by imc or i have to make sure that both rotations should be written with word “General”.

I have 3 months rotations but there is gap in between rotations. I skipped a 3 month rotation and then did it 6months after ending of my house job. will it gonna be a issue even if I have a genuine reason?

I have done my HJ at JPMC karachi. i am here to ask that is there any thing to concern about the Experience certificate writing as I have done my rotation in Accident and Emergency, Orthopaedic, General medicine and General surgery. so point is that some one told me to ask Hospital admin to Write only EMERGENCY MEDICINE in the place of Accident and Emergency. and for General surgery hospital admin also wrote ward number infront as Medicine ward 3 Surgery ward 4 and for Orthopaedic ward 14. will it be ok or should i ask them to write in order like General Surgery, General Medicine, orthopaedic Surgery and Emergency Medicine. i dont think so that it is a mater of concern to whether wrtie or not to write ward number infront and for Orthopaaedic will it be nesccesary to be write surgery infront of Orthopaedic. Will be expecting a good guidance. thanks
