Guide to GP Trainee Recruitment Ireland – 2025

The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived! The application process for GP Training 2025 is now officially open on the ICGP website. Dive into this concise blog for a comprehensive guide to kickstart your application journey!

Whats New ?

The application process remains similar to last year, with a few crucial updates to the exam format. This year, the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) will feature around 35 scenarios, and the Clinical Problem Solving Test (CPST) will consist of 50 scenarios.

This year, the Irish College of GPs recruitment process introduces a new feature called Paired Applications. This feature enables two applicants to link their applications together during the offers stage.

Once you’ve registered with the Irish College of GPs and paid the registration fee, a Risr account will be created for you within 24 hours. This account serves as your main access point for the recruitment process. Most communications with applicants will be conducted through this platform.

Application Process Overview for GP Training 2025

Stage 1: Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and Clinical Problem Solving Test (CPST) Candidates interested in applying must complete the online SJT and CPST. The deadline to submit applications is Monday, 21st October 2024, at 17:00 PM.

Stage 2: Further Application for Qualified Candidates Applicants who achieve the minimum required scores in the SJT and CPST can proceed to the next stage. This application period is open from 20th November to 4th December 2024, closing at 17:00 PM.

Stage 3: Interview Invitation Candidates who successfully provide the necessary documentation in Stage 2 will be invited to interviews scheduled for the 12th and 13th of February 2025.

Q: My IMC registration not active yet ? Am I still eligible to apply?

Yes, you are eligible to sit for the test even if your IMC registration is not currently active. However, it is mandatory to have an active IMC registration by the time the application part B closes on 4th December 2024. This is necessary because you will need to submit your application along with all the required paperwork by this date.

If you’re new to this process, it might seem daunting at first. However, it’s important to know that you can sit for the test regardless of your current status, but you must have an active IMC registration by the 4th of December and meet all eligibility requirements. The key criteria include an active IMC registration, completion of a 1-year housejob/internship, and having an English language test.
