Who Is The God Of Cricket – Mumbai, April 22 (IANS) Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and to others greatness is brought to them, wrote William Shakespeare in his play Twelfth Night.

What the greatest English dramatist meant was that some people are born great and don’t have to work for it; others must work hard and find greatness, while the third group includes those blessed by fate and allowed to be great in surprising ways.

But there is another category who are born great but nurture their incredible talent and through hard work increase their greatness and become the greatest of them all. And then they even surpass that stage and become demigods.

The God Of Cricket

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar falls into this category – born with an abundance of talent, he nurtured it through hard work and through sheer application of his talent and sweat, he achieved the sober “God of Cricket”.

As the greatest cricketer who celebrates his 50th birthday on April 24, the world recognizes him as the living god of cricket. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar achieved his greatness by setting countless records in all forms of cricket and setting a benchmark that would only be surpassed by someone more gifted, hardworking and luckier than him.

Born on 24 April 1973 to Marathi poet, novelist and writer Ramesh Tendulkar and Rajni, who worked in the insurance industry, Sachin Tendulkar could have become everything a middle-class boy aspired to be.

Instead, he became a cricketer because his elder brother Ajith spotted his talent for the game and took him to coach Ramakant Achrekar, his guru, guide and mentor. He raised young Sachin, a mischievous boy, a bully who regularly got into fights at school, and turned him into a demigod of the Indian sporting paradise, the greatest sportsman the country had ever seen.

The world first saw his talent in 1988 when he and Vinod Kambli put on an unbroken partnership of 664 runs for Sharadashram Vidyamandir School in a Harris Shield inter-school match against St. Xavier High School. Young Sachin scored 325 not out in this match.

But that did not make him the greatest cricketer of his time. Vinod Kambli scored more runs in this partnership and therefore by definition should have won as much as Tendulkar. But that didn’t happen. Kambli’s cricket career was eventful but short.

It is not clear who first used the term God of Cricket to describe him, but his honor has stuck with his short stature with other cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli mentioning him many times from this sobriety.

The sheer number of runs, records and achievements is unmatched — he is the only cricketer to score more than 30,000 runs at the highest level of the game.

Sachin Tendulkar God Of Cricket

In an international career spanning 24 years, Tendulkar has scored 34,357 runs for India in all formats. He is the all-time leading player in Test cricket, with 15,921 runs in Tests and holds the records for most Test centuries (51) and most Test matches played (200). He has also registered the most fours in the format (2058) and is the fastest cricketer to reach 15,000 Test runs.

A pioneer of the shorter version of the game, the former India captain has played the most ODIs (463), scored the most ODI runs (18,426) and has the most centuries in the history of ODI cricket (49).

He is the first cricketer to score double centuries in ODI cricket – scoring 200 not out against South Africa in an ODI at Gwalior on 24 February 2010. One of the few cricketers to have played in six World Cups, he won the most prestigious title in ODI cricket in 2011 at their home ground at the Wankhede Stadium.

In 2010, Sachin Tendulkar was named by Wisden as the greatest cricketer of all time and was awarded the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2002 – at the age of 29, he became the youngest recipient and the fifth Indian recipient. In September 2007, he was nominated by the ICC as one of five cricketers for induction into the 2008 ICC Hall of Fame.

In 2012, Tendulkar was voted by cricket fans as one of their 24 favorite players of the last fifty years, along with Sir Donald Bradman and Sir Garfield Sobers, as well as Shane Warne. The Government of India honored him with the Arjuna Award, the Khel Ratna Award, the Padma Vibhushan and the Bharat Ratna, the first sportsperson to receive the highest civilian honor conferred by the Government of India.

He is the most successful batsman in the history of cricket, scoring more runs and centuries than any other batsman in Tests and ODIs, setting numerous records and receiving all the available awards the game has to offer.

But more than his many runs, records and achievements in the field, what makes Tendulkar a legend is his sheer tenacity as he overcomes career-threatening injuries, periods of loss of form, tragedies like the death of his father during the World Cup in 1999 in England, suffered bouts of depression due to the 2007 World Cup failure and questioning of his failed captaincy. Many people question his status as the greatest cricketer of all time because he failed to lead India to World Cup victories and because he did not score for India when it was most needed.

Despite all this, Tendulkar has inspired many generations of Indian cricketers and is still someone young players look up to. He was never known to lose heart in the field and always let his bat do the talking. Tendulkar has not been involved in any scandals on or off the field. There has been some controversy, but he has always tried to be an exemplary athlete throughout his career and has been quite successful at it.

His greatest achievement is that he was the greatest hope for billions of Indians during his playing days and is still an inspiration to many thanks to his philanthropic work.

Tendulkar has always been a role model for the youngsters and has always maintained a high level of integrity both on and off the field. He is a man who has always inspired others with his performances and his attitude towards the game.

His all-encompassing personality makes him the greatest cricketer of all time and for many the God of cricket. In his 24 years as a batsman, India’s Sachin Tendulkar has broken almost every record that exists in cricket. As he retired after his last match in Mumbai, he left behind a legacy that no other cricketer could match.

Talk About The God Of Cricket

MUMBAI – Just before Thursday, work came to a standstill here in India’s bustling financial capital. The power flickered in small villages as hundreds of thousands watched on television. The streets were deserted.

Across the country, millions of cricket-mad Indians stopped what they were doing to watch a little curly-haired man – one of the best batsmen to ever play the game, or so they say – take the field for the last time.

This week, Sachin Tendulkar played his last match for India, retiring after an extraordinarily long 24-year career that began in 1989 when he was just 16. He is now 40. In later years, the quiet son of a writer. record after record and brought India the World Cup in 2011, a moment he calls the highlight of his career.
