Australian Cricket Team Captain – Test captain Pat Cummins has won the race to take over from Aaron Finch to become Australia’s next ODI captain.
Finch called time on his ODI career during Australia’s recent home series against New Zealand and the Aussies quickly announced Cummins as his replacement.

Cummins will become Australia’s 27th ODI captain and the right-arm paceman will lead the country in 50-overs ahead of next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.

The 29-year-old paid tribute to Finch and said he was looking forward to the opportunity to captain Australia on the one-day circuit.
“I enjoyed playing under Finchy and learned a lot from his leadership,” Cummins said.
They are significant boots to fill, although we are very fortunate to have an experienced one-day squad.”
Cummins is currently part of Australia’s 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at home, with Finch remaining the captain at T20 level.

MRF Tires ICC Rankings Friday 3 MaMichael Clarke began his tenure as Australia’s permanent ODI captain with a 3-0 clean sweep of Bangladesh. When the world no. 1 in cricket will meet world no. 9 This result was expected.
Bangladesh put up a good show to their credit. Their batting was often criticized for not putting up a better fight than expected, while their usual home spin bowling power struggled to contain the Australian batsmen.
However, the series was an opportunity for some of the Australian players in the squad to prove themselves and answer their critics, and it’s safe to say that most of those in question failed miserably.
India Came Hard At Us, But We Didn’t Panic’: Australia Captain Meg Lanning After T20 World Cup Semis Win
But the exclusion of players like Hussey, Watson, Ponting, Clarke and Lee did not justify their position to the rest of the team.
His first series after taking over the captaincy from Ricky Ponting. It was always interesting how he handled the situation with Ponting still by his side and at the same time managed to establish his authority over the team. From the outside it seems like he handled the transition well and the team dynamic seems to be working well.
He was consistent and in the first match, when the team needed it the most, he played a typical captain’s shot. This series is a good start for his era.
Although he never looked like a captain in the ODI format, he somehow did not score well. He always seemed to have a lot on his mind and that had a huge impact on him and his batting.
Australia Name Head, Cummins As Co Vice Captains For Sri Lanka Tests
In this series he looked more like Ponting of old. He came in and never looked lazy, immediately attacking and hitting the class.
He still somehow managed to get a good set once in two out of three innings, but even then Ponting seems to have a lot to offer in this Australian side.
Hussey was his usual confident self and proved his worth to the team with a score of 108 in the last match of the series. He was good and athletic on the field and created a semblance of solidarity in the middle of the team.
In this new era of Australian cricket, Hussey will play a major role in guiding the youngsters and helping them develop.
An Interview With Andrew Weller, Physical Performance Manager For Cricket Australia
Watson has become a real winner for Australia over the past two seasons and this series has added to his growing reputation in world cricket as one of the game’s true best players.
His innings in the second match was simply superb and he handled the Bangladesh bowling attack with ease. If the target was 20-30 runs more, we are likely to see Sachin’s world record broken.
His bowling has often been reliable down the order without being outstanding and now as the team’s vice-captain he is proving too much of a stand-in for Clarke.
He has done well as an opener without being consistent in his career, but has had a forgettable run as a batsman and will likely be looking forward to the off-season after his IPL stint.
World Series Cup 1994/95: When Two Australian Teams Were Better Than One
I’m sure he’ll get a few more chances in the next two series in Australia, but he’ll have to watch out for the ever-present threat in Tim Paine.
He is one of the players who has been persistent for a long time. He hasn’t been doing well as Batman for a few years.
He had a very disappointing run which saw him slump after failing to perform well in the first match as well as away against the BCB XI.
It wasn’t just the low number of runs that was worrying, but also the way he was stuck at the crease.
Australian Women’s Cricket Team Captain Meg Lanning Goes On A Sabbatical, No Fixed Date Set For A Comeback
Whether he gets another chance is up to the selectors and I feel they may have lost patience with him.
With 3 wickets and 6 runs in 3 matches, Smith has done nothing to silence his critics. People have been told of his immense potential for some time now, and with the constant setbacks, the pressure to perform must be piling up.
When he strikes, he always seems confused about which way to strike. He seems to have only two speeds, one where he is super defensive and one where he can’t hit every ball for a boundary. He must find a balance between the two, and he must do so quickly.
Marked as a player for the future, he did not get a chance to play in the first game and could not hit in the second game either. In his only appearance in the series, he scored 3 runs.
David Warner Should Be Short Term T20 World Cup Captain Of Australia
It will be difficult to judge based on one move in the middle, but if he cannot perform well, he will quickly increase the pressure.
In many Australian cricket circles, he is regarded as the next Australian captain after Clarke. Although his retention skills are not in doubt, he is still number one. 2 in the country and to usurp Haddin, he has to improve both in batting and wicket-keeping.
However, his time will come and then he will be judged with justice. In this series he played only one game in which he was good behind the wickets and did not prove himself in front of them.
Brett Lee has proven himself since returning from injury and is making a good case for being the leader of the attack. He played two matches and proved to be economical, picking up just one wicket.
Who Should Be The Next Captain Of Australia?
His contribution can be gauged by looking at the third match in which he did not play and Bangladesh scored 290+ runs.
He brings a level of composure and confidence to the attack and with him Clarke knows what he’s going to get every game.
Mitchell Johnson has always been a mess and he proved it in this series. He took 7 wickets but the first match ban cost a lot of runs.
He needs to work on his control if he wants to establish himself as the leader of the attack after Lee.
Australia Captain Announces Odi Retirement, Will Not Play Next Year’s World Cup
He bowls lustily in the two innings he goes to play, but can probably do without the pressure that comes with the all-rounder tag.
If he’s Australia’s number one man, it’s probably a good idea to ask Shane Warne to come back for a few more seasons.
Doherty has done nothing to silence his critics, and Jason Crea has to wonder why he lost his seat to Doherty. He probably won’t be in better bowling conditions than he has been in Bangladesh for a long time.
A talented all-rounder, he was consistent with the ball, keeping the runs low and taking 2 wickets in the series.
