Afghanistan National Cricket Team Players – It is said that sport knows no frontiers, and so cricket crossed the frigid mountains of the Hind Kush to reach Afghanistan itself in the mid-19th century. Records state that the first cricket match was played in Afghanistan in 1839, although cricket did not immediately flourish in the country. It was not until the 1990s that cricket became popular among Afghan refugees in Pakistan, who were gripped by the game fever.

The Afghanistan Cricket Federation was founded in 1995 by Afghan refugees in Pakistan. When the refugees returned home in 2001, they took home their new love of the game and continued to play cricket in Afghanistan, as it was the only sport not banned by the Taliban in the country. In 2001, the Afghanistan Cricket Federation became part of the ICC when it was elected an associate member. From there, Afghanistan began its long journey towards obtaining ODI and Test status.

It was a great achievement for the country and its hard-working players.

After gaining valuable experience at the World Cup, the Afghan cricket team continued its development. In 2017, the four-day national competition of Afghanistan was awarded “premium” status by the ICC.
